When you think of autumn leaves in Kyoto, Kiyomizu-dera Temple is likely one of the first places that come to mind. Every autumn, Kiyomizu-dera hosts a special nighttime viewing.

History and Background
Kiyomizu-dera is one of Kyoto’s most iconic temples, originally founded in 794. It was registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in 1994. The autumn night illumination is a special event that attracts many visitors during the fall foliage season.
Kiyomizu-dera is conveniently located near Shijo Kawaramachi and also close to Gion-Shijo Station on the Keihan Railway line.
It’s easy to reach by train from Osaka, Kobe, and other nearby cities.
